Smashwords eBook Publishing Review

I just finished submitting my second eBook - this time to Smashwords. I really liked Kinde's eBook publishing service (my upholstery book has sold a couple of copies,) but I wanted to be able to share about other services. So, I submitted my children's book to Smashwords.

So far, Smashwords seems even easier to use (more intuitive) than Kindle's service, and distributes to more sellers using more formats. They also offer (new service?) the chance to record your ebooks as audiobooks, and link between the ebook page and audiobook page.

I had to do quite a bit of reformatting, because I had prepared the children's book to submit to a print publisher, with almost everything center justified and a fancy font suited for print. (According to the information provided, centering and fancy fonts do not translate well on eReaders.)

I'll let you know how it goes through subsequent posts, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the ebook publishing process - if I don't have the answer you need I'll be glad to find it for you.

  1. One thing I really like about Smashwords, is being able to check the page views, not just the eBooks sold. (A little extra data beyond what is provided on the other site.

I think that way, if I notice a lot of people are looking but not buying it will be time to do some tweaking.

  2. I am researching e-book companies for myself and wondered how your sales have been. One review I read said they had had a lot of pirating from Smashwords and had not received payment for books sold on B&N. What has your experience been? (Please respond to leanne at leannehardy dot net )
