I've been ghost writing SEO articles for years now as a full-time job and I make good money doing it. However, I don't charge a million dollars a page. My clients are internet marketers and, in spite of what their sales pages say, I know that they're working hard for their money just like me. What I'd recommend to writers who want to make more is not to raise your rates, but to raise your writing speed.
Basically, working faster means giving yourself a raise. If you're charging $8 an article and writing 2 per hour, picking it up to 3 articles per hour means you've gone from $16 to $24. You don't get a raise like that in the corporate world.
Before I get to some tips though, I want to make one thing clear. Picking up speed is great, but don't compromise on quality. Master writing SEO articles, get your flow down, streamline your system, and then speed it all up.
Take A Typing Class
It sounds stupid maybe, but it is a wonderful idea for absolutely anybody. If you're not typing more than 75 words a minute, you're too slow. To be honest, I was a less than stellar student in high school, and I took a blow-off keyboarding class to avoid anything mentally challenging, and it did me wonders.
For SEO articles, you need to write in a conversational style. The best Internet writing "talks" to the reader. Just like Jack Kerouac, who typed like a maniac so that he could capture all of his exact thoughts on paper, you can talk with the keyboard. In my experience, this creates the most readable text.
Sharpen Your Research Skills
For most folks, it's the research that takes time. You've got to find good, relevant information from several different sites. In fact, the more unique the information and the more sites you research, the better your articles are going to be. The way to do thorough research quickly is to find exact relevant information quickly, and not spend time scanning a bunch of stuff you don't need. Make it quick and to the point.
Write Fast And Loose… Edit Later
This is something that works for me, and it may not work for everybody. In writing anything, whether it's SEO articles or fiction or emails to friends, I write very fast and don't fuss over exact wording. Once I've hammered it out, I go through and read it. I find dumb things like two sentences next to each other that start with the phrase "The key is…" I find goofy mistakes that a junior high school kid wouldn't make. But this is what works for me: Write fast and loose, and then go back later and get the wording right, clean it up, and so on.
Of course, you've got to find whatever works best for you, and this is different for everybody. For example, I always outline. I find that this ensures better quality articles that stick to the point. To pick up speed, develop your own system and work at it until it's perfect for turning out high quality articles, then speed it up and you'll make more money without raising your rates.
