With my weekend rants about TB and DS out of the way, it's time for me to get back to work, reviewing writing sites.
Orato is a citizen journalist site, with a rev share payscale and "instant live" publishing format similar to Suite101's. The biggest difference I have noticed between Suite101 and Orato, is, my Orato articles do not get many page views (the site seems to have a serious lack of Google juice), and according to reports by some Suite writers, they do not actually come through with payments when the $10 payout is finally reached.
I can't personally vouch for their lack of payment, since, after two years I am only at $3.09 for my 10 articles. I quit posting new articles there when other writers mentioned they had not been paid when payout was finally reached.
So, if you are just looking for a place to publish your work in the hope of getting paid, they are great. I also loved the way the editors punched up my articles, because they really did a nice job with them.
I don't consider the time I spent writing for them as wasted, because etheir editing style inspired me to get more creative in my writing; and that has served me well. I think of it as a writing lesson I didn't have to pay for.
