Writing as a Weekend Job

I was chatting with one of my friends today, about the quickly rising cost of living, while there are so few jobs available. She doesn't want to work in fast food, because paying a baby sitter and gas to drive to work would take most of her earnings: so I asked her how she would feel about writing. After all, she would be home with her children, wouldn't need extra money for work clothes or gas to drive to work, and she has Internet access anyway. I offered to recommend a few good online writing sites that, while they don't pay a lot, they do pay reliably, and actually far more than she would make at a minimum wage part-time job.

I wouldn't recommend writing online for everyone, because, well, not everyone likes to write. If, however, someone likes to write, I have to say I think it's a great way to earn money, whether it's to replace a part-time weekend job flipping burgers for minium wage, or to get out of a full-time sweatshop job. The main thing I would recommend, though, is don't give up your "real" job until you have a few articles under your belt, and if you go with only rev-share sites, you're going to need a lot of articles to replace another income source.
